In what is a first for the artist and namesake of the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sanctuary, volunteer docent and researcher, Kim Straus, and volunteer graphic designer extraordinaire, Judy Kohn, have produced a small book:  Raising Chickens in Santa Fe: The Artistic Life of Randall Davey. The slim volume traces Davey (1887 – 1964) from his early life back East to his travels abroad and his journey to Santa Fe where he lived for 44 years.  The narrative is supplemented with quotes by Davey and others and is richly illustrated with photographs, signature examples of his art, and views of his historic home. A chronology of his life and achievements, along with a posthumous poetic tribute, complete the canvas of a passionate and vibrant legacy.

A section at the end of the book announces an ongoing project to build archives and records on Davey and the Center’s history. Persons with stories, letters, photos – especially of his art – and  other materials are encouraged to contact the volunteers working on this effort by emailing randalldaveyarchives@audubon.org or leaving a message at (505) 983-4609.

The book is available for $10 in the Randall Davey Visitor Center and can be ordered through the above email or phone number (add $4 for postage and handling). Proceeds of the book will support maintenance and restoration projects in Davey’s home and studio.
