An enthusiastic group of birders joined the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sanctuary’s Let’ Go Birding Together! pride bird walk event on June 22, 2024.

The day was overcast and cool, which was a welcome relief from the hot weather Santa Fe had been experiencing lately. We began our journey across the road from the Center in the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve, venturing over steppingstones in the river and holding onto branches overhead to view ponds and former dams where birds like to congregate. We then hiked up to the Center to discover birds at the feeders posted around campus. Though the clouds kept us from spotting as many species as we may have normally, we logged 19 species of birds, many through their calls which brightened the cloudy day. Among the highlights: Ash-throated Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Yellow-breasted Chat, Violet-green swallows, Western Tanager, Black-chinned and Broad-tailed Hummingbirds.
